MV-R Stainless steel separator

MV-R Stainless steel separator

The MV-R permanent high intensity separator is designed especially for the automatic separation of small stainless particles.

Design of stainless steel separator

This separator is fit with a pair of rolls. One roll is a driving one (with a magnetic core) and the other (non-magnetic) is a driven one. The pair of rolls drives a very thin, nevertheless, a very durable conveyor belt.

The speed of the driven roller can be regulated according to the type of cleaned material and the individual client’s needs. The very thin (but durable) polyurethane conveyor belt meets the requirements for food applications. Besides, it is also antistatic and resistant to the effects of heat and mineral oils.

The device is equipped with extremely strong magnets with a very short magnetic field (with a magnetic reach of max. 10 mm). Therefore, the basic conditions for the separation of very small, weakly magnetic or paramagnetic particles include the formation of a uniform and the lowest material layer possible on the separator belt (e. g., by means of a vibratory feeder). If feasible, the layer height should not exceed the maximum material size and it should be a monolayer. That is why it is recommended that the height of the material transported on the belt does not exceed 5 mm and if the client wants to achieve the maximum possible efficiency, we recommend that the material height of the layer is up to 2 mm.

Operation mode

MV-R Stainless steel separatorWhen the material moves into the separation zone of the magnetic head pulley, magnetically-susceptible particles are attracted towards the high intensity magnetic poles. The trajectory of the particles affected by the high-strength magnetic field is altered and these particles are carried outside the magnetic field of the magnetic roll. The non-magnetic material continues to flow in a normal trajectory and falls spontaneously off (by gravitation) at the end of the belt conveyor.

With a carefully positioned splitter, the two fractions – magnetically susceptible minerals and non-magnetics – are separated from each other. The splitter position is angularly and axially adjustable (again according to the client’s needs and the properties of the cleaned material), and that is why in some applications it is possible to create a third (so called ‘middlings’) fraction consisting of weakly magnetic particles.

Magnetic separation of stainless steel

In the primary state, most types of stainless steel are non-magnetic, nevertheless, in the course of production of stainless steel parts, the original crystal lattice is damaged (by machine and heat treatment, by pressing or crushing etc.) and the stainless steel becomes weakly magnetic. However, in comparison with ordinary steel or iron, the magnetizability of the already processed stainless steel is only very low (in the range of only a few percent). That is why there must be used extremely strong magnetic separators for the separation of stainless steel particles.

And even the maximum size of stainless material has a significant effect on the separation capacity - the smaller are the stainless steel particles, the more difficult it is for the separator to capture them. The MV-R can capture ferromagnetic particles as small as one micron, but really reliably it can separate weakly magnetic particles larger than 0.1 mm.

The high intensity rolls with radial-field magnets (LSV, MV-R, VMSV, VMSV EKO) are extremely strong magnetic separators. Therefore, they can e. g. separate even pieces of plastics, rubber, stones or wood contaminated with mere iron oxides.

We supply this highly efficient device as standard in widths from 500 to 1,500 mm.
