Granulators VESPA

Granulator or shredder?

The primary difference between a granulator and a shredder is he output size of the processed material. Shredder reduces the material into pieces from 20 to 100 mm, while a granulator reduces the plastics until it passes through the screen (usually ranging from 6 to 12 mm). Another difference consists in the operating speed and feeding mode: the granulators operate at high speed (ours from 550 to 970 rpm) with relatively low torque, while shredders operate at low speed (from 3 to 90 rpm) with relatively high torque. That is why it is not ideal to feed a lot of big sized and high density materials into a granulator (it could get jammed or even damaged), while the shredder can easily shred heavy and bulky plastic scrap. Sometimes both the machines can be found at the same production line, where the shredder performs the coarse size reduction, and the granulator is used for final sizing to consistent, small and uniform granules. So, if you need a small and uniform size of the output particles, you should opt for a granulator.
